Bring a sword and shield, put on your best dress, spread your wings and join us at Brancepeth Castle where dragons roam the halls. Hear tales of dragons past and get creative making dragon memories.

Durham University English studies dig into the rich North-East dragon folklore and bring some long-forgotten stories back to life at this captivating family event. Beautiful hand-crafted puppets made from a mixture of textile materials. From puppets that sit on the hand to the Lambton Worm, the three person monster!
Activities:
- Join “Outlaws and Vagabonds” re-enactment group to wield a sword and find out what it takes to be a knight
- Go hammer and tongs with the “True North Trades” blacksmiths and forge your own relic
- Join “Hippy Lizard” to make a dragon keepsake
- Enjoy coffee, cake and snacks by the dragons’ open fire.

- What dragon do you dream up? Be inspired to imagine your own dragon and add them into the Dragonology book.
- Snuggle down and share dragons stories in the book corner

Good to know:
- Fancy dress encouraged for young and old alike - come as a knight, a princess, a medieval personage, a dragon…
- Cafe for drinks and dragon snacks, or bring a picnic.
- Access to the castle interior is via eight steps (assistance can be given carrying up pushchairs)
- Free parking outside the castle on the grass (sat-nav DH7 8DF).
- 5 minute walk from Brancepeth Village bus stop, buses every 20 minutes (46 Durham-Crook service).
Activity Details:
While you are here visiting the relm of dragons, you could also create your very own little monster to take with you on future adventures. Easy to make out of felt with a few simple stitches or gule and a little imagination; then your new friend can be fitted with a brooch back ready for your travels. £3 per monster.
