Unusual but fantastic tour.

A wonderful experience... The guide was great and it is a wonderful mix of history both old, very old & the more recent family history. You really get to see the bones & behind scenes which is not so common in castle tours. Also fascinating hearing all about the trials of the renovations—so glad we did this and that we just happened to be in the area at the right time.

Brancepeth Castle 'Quartermasters', an unforgettable stay in a castle.

I booked a stay at 'Quartermasters' in Brancepeth Castle as a surprise for my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary and it didn't disappoint. How many people can say they have stayed at a castle for a sensible price?! ... We were greeted with a welcome card, birthday card for Pat, fresh flowers, milk, and a bottle of Prosecco. The accommodation was light & airy and looked out over towards the trees and part of Brancepeth golf course. ... We pre-booked a castle tour which was taken by a member of the family. It was very interesting and nice to have a proper look around the castle and see what work the family are doing to preserve the castle for future generations.

Brancepeth: The Making of England

A wonderful place, not to be missed. Centuries of English history crammed into one astonishing building. The medieval ruins, the nineteenth-century rebuilding as a 'Gothic' castle, the Durham Light Infantry's presence during the Second World War—and now a whole range of twenty-first century activities to enjoy. We can't wait to come back to find out more!

History at its roots! Guided tour by the owners.

Didn’t know quite what to expect but was so pleased we made the 80-mile trip to go. The tour was done by a family member who made us feel so welcome. The history behind the castle is fascinating. If you love history, you will love this place. ... We had a private tour which lasted about an hour and a half, followed by a homemade pot of tea and biscuits. There are some very interesting books there with a story behind them all. And if you are a jam lover, they make their own jam available at a really realistic price.

Just been to Brancepeth Castle today for a guided tour, and it was brilliant. The guide, who is also the owner was fabulous. He's obviously passionate about the Castle, its history and its heritage. I'd definitely recommend a visit, its so interesting. We even got a cuppa made for us in the bookstore after the tour. Loved it.

Had an amazing time exploring the castle, soaking in the history and enjoying the There Be Dragons event. Lovely family run place, would be amazing for weddings, festivals, history societies or reenactment groups to hire. Thoroughly recommend any of their events."

Outstanding personalized castle visit to a Grade 1 listed building. Original structure dates to the Norman times. Part of the charm and learning is seeing the construction changes throughout the ages from AD1100 forward. Resident family members provide the tours which are most interesting and last about 90 minutes. You must schedule and reserve in advance, not open every day.

Worth every penny.

We visited for the Christmas craft fair. The event was well organised and the castle itself was beautiful. There were many stalls of high quality products such as local coffee, art, pottery, jewellery, food, soaps, ornaments - all by local small business owners.

Attended a wedding here. Absolutely amazing place. I had no idea there was such a beautiful castle there that is actually still lived in and working. Located in a small, old fashioned looking village just outside Durham, with a church right next door.
